Ready to Grow: Ed Brockman’s 10-Year Journey at Performance Nutrition

With 10 years as a Performance Nutrition employee under his belt, Ed Brockman is ready to do what he came to the company to do on day 1: GROW! And he believes he’s got the team in place to do just that.

“What I’m most looking forward to in these coming years is the ability to do what I came to do 10 years ago, which was grow, get our products into the marketplace, and deliver the solutions the industry needs. It’s coming true. We have the right investors in place. We have excellent leadership and we are growing,” says Brockman, director of sales for turf and ornamental.

From the Beginning

Brockman is no stranger to the turf industry. As a seasoned veteran, he has nearly 30 years of experience under his belt, and that experience is what allowed him to see the opportunity Performance Nutrition presented.

Before joining the company, Brockman was a customer. Managing a company that distributed turf products throughout Kentucky, Tennessee, Alabama, and Southern Indiana, he had a chance to see firsthand how the products performed and how the team behind them handled business. It was a team he knew he wanted to be a part of.

“I became very acquainted with Don and his products and the rest of the people that worked there. Sometime 10-plus years ago, Don offered me a job to come join his company and work out of the Midwest,” he shares. “I didn’t hesitate.”

Leveraging his manufacturing experience and pairing it with his understanding of how distributors work, made him an instant fit for a company in its prime and looking to grow. The icing on the cake for the new representative was the technology. The proprietary technologies Performance Nutrition has invested time and resources developing truly sets it apart from the competition, he believes…both then and now.

“We have had, and still today, have some incredible proprietary technologies. Technologies that the turf market—turf managers—need. We’re not a ‘me too’ fertilizer company. We have a purpose for every product in our portfolio, and our real story is how our customers find success with each one,” he explains. “You’ve got to be out there looking people in the eye and pairing up these products for the problems they’re facing.”

Ed has made it his mission to help tell that story every day for the past ten years. Today, he’s got good help. In his role, he splits his time between maintaining and growing the Midwest territory and helping Performance Nutrition’s growing sales team develop relationships in the Northeast and Southeast.

“Growing our sales team is something that I’m most proud of,” Brockman says. “More people means we can provide better service, which is something we’ve always prided ourselves on. With our sales and distributor network growing, more members on my team means that we can spend more time with every distributor and do a more thorough job of making sure everyone has what they need when they need it.”

Growing his team has also delivered personal satisfaction, and the people who have filled those roles have become his favorite part of the day.

“The best part of my day is having people to share my sales dilemmas and thoughts with—being able to work together with a team of professionals to solve those problems,” he says. “When you have a team like that, it’s hard to not have a good day.”
