Performance Nutrition Introduces ExAlt Ca, Combining Calcium, Humic Acid and Soil Surfactant Technology

Performance Nutrition’s new ExAlt® Ca formulation targets root-zone challenges to help growers manage excess sodium, improve water movement, nutrient availability and fertilizer efficiency

Performance Nutrition is proud to introduce ExAlt® Ca, a new calcium, humic acid and soil surfactant formulation designed to improve root-zone conditions while providing crops with a readily available source of calcium.

Designed for agricultural, turf and ornamental applications, ExAlt Ca combines 4% calcium with humic acid and Performance Nutrition’s soil surfactant technology to help improve water movement and nutrient availability while supporting stronger root development.

“ExAlt Ca is the kind of product California growers need to improve their soil structure and water quality,” said Chris Underwood, Director of Innovation and Business Development. “With the right calcium availability and improved root-zone conditions, you can help crops build strength early, handle stress better and make every fertigation and foliar application work harder.”

Growers are being asked to get more from every acre while managing higher input costs, challenging water quality and soil conditions that can limit how efficiently water and nutrients move through the root zone. Those challenges are particularly important in California, where salinity and water quality can make it more difficult for growers to capture the full value of their fertility programs.

That is the challenge ExAlt Ca was created to address.

Built Around the Root Zone

Calcium is essential for cell wall strength, root development and overall plant structure, but applying calcium does not necessarily mean it will be available where the plant needs it. Water movement, soil structure, salinity and other root-zone conditions can influence how efficiently calcium and other nutrients move through the soil profile.

ExAlt Ca takes a broader approach by pairing calcium with humic acid and soil surfactant technology to address both the nutrient and the environment surrounding the roots. The formulation helps move excess sodium from the root zone while supporting improved soil structure and aggregation, water infiltration and drainage. It also helps reduce compaction and surface crusting, improve fertilizer efficiency and encourage stronger root development.

“We didn’t want to develop another product that simply added calcium to a fertility program,” Underwood said. “We wanted to look at what is happening around the roots and give growers a tool that helps create better conditions for the calcium, water and fertility they are already applying to do their job. That is really what making every input count is about.”

By addressing multiple root-zone challenges in one formulation, ExAlt Ca gives growers another tool to help maximize the value of their water and fertility investments while supporting healthier, more productive plants.
