Celebrating Women in Agriculture:
Wendy Kemmerer’s 30-Year Journey in Plant Nutrition
As agriculture celebrates both Women in Agriculture Month and the 2026 Year of the International Woman Farmer, we’re offered an opportunity to recognize the women whose expertise help to move the industry forward—both in the field and behind the scenes. While many agricultural stories begin on the farm, others start in research labs, manufacturing facilities, and product development teams that support growers every day.
Wendy Kemmerer’s career with Performance Nutrition reflects the growing influence of women across every corner of agriculture, those who didn’t come from a farm… and even those who had no intention of working in agriculture every day.
The Early Years
Twenty-five years ago, if you had asked Wendy Kemmerer about her path in agriculture she could have defined it in one word: plant science. With a master’s degree in plant pathology and turfgrass management, backed with a solid undergraduate degree in plant science, science was Wendy’s path forward.
Today, that answer looks a little different. After nearly thirty years with Performance Nutrition, Wendy doesn’t confine her contribution to one title, she’s worn nearly every hat to lead the team to where it is today.
Wendy joined Performance Nutrition in May 1997, fresh out of graduate school, beginning what has evolved into a career defined by adaptability and deep institutional knowledge. Originally hired into a research and development role, Wendy was responsible for overseeing product research and trial work during the company’s early years, and over time, as business needs shifted, so did her responsibilities.
“My role has changed quite a bit since I was hired,” she shares. “They brought me in for R&D, so I was really in charge of the research and development work we were doing.”
As the company evolved from a smaller, family-run organization into a growing agricultural tech business, Wendy transitioned alongside it. Today, she’s held roles in compliance, labeling, manufacturing coordination, and currently serves as the portfolio manager. Every day, her role touches nearly every aspect of bringing products to market, from pricing and profitability to manufacturing logistics and new product initiatives.
Wendy spends her days leveraging her hard-earned science degree to drive strategic initiatives and collaborate closely with industry partners. Simultaneously, she works with internal teams to evaluate new product ideas, oversee supply chain operations, and ensure every stage is fully supported by the Performance Nutrition team to meet demand efficiently.
Making a Difference Everyday
On any given day, you’ll find her coordinating large customer orders, adjusting production schedules, or collaborating with chemists and sales teams on future innovations.
“It’s really a little bit of everything,” she laughs. “When you’re part of a smaller team, you end up wearing multiple hats whether you want to or not.”
Wendy’s academic foundation helped prepare her for that flexibility. She earned both her undergraduate and master’s degrees in plant science, with graduate research focused on controlling plant disease through nutrition. And while her early work did lean toward turfgrass and plant pathology rather than production agriculture, that applied science background ultimately became a natural fit for Performance Nutrition’s approach to crop inputs, and her daily exposure to large-scale crop production and grower challenges has helped to reshape her perspective over time.
“You don’t really realize how price sensitive it is to grow a crop of corn or soybeans. There’s a lot more involved from seed to store than people think,” she says.
That growing appreciation for farmers, and the complexity behind food production, continues to motivate her work today. Wendy takes a lot of pride in helping develop niche nutritional solutions that support productivity while aligning with Performance Nutrition’s focus on responsible inputs.
“Trying to find products that are going to help someone. That’s the most rewarding part of what I get to do every day,” she says.
Like everything that comes from the Performance Nutrition brand, Wendy’s career can best be described as practical. She’s helping feed the world one scientific breakthrough; one nutritional discovery at a time. She’s helping connect research, manufacturing and market needs, and her career reflects not only personal development and longevity, but the longevity and performance that are delivering real-world value in agriculture to make every input count!
Thanks for being part of the team Wendy, and thank you for choosing agriculture!
