Why choose Urea Phosphite over Potassium Phosphite?

Urea Phosphite vs Potassium Phosphite, Why choose Urea Phosphite over Potassium Phosphite?

With the recent launch of two new liquid urea-phosphite fertilizers (Prudent Ag and Prudent Si), Performance Nutrition has expanded upon their popular urea phosphite technology platform to meet the specific needs of row crop and specialty ag growers, along with those in the turf and ornamentals markets.

All Prudent products can be used to enhance plant growth, increase productivity, and enhance stress tolerance. When compared to the many potassium phosphite-based products available, PN’s urea phosphite products provide superior phosphorus mobility for better root and foliar absorption and improve resilience and stress tolerance. Prudent products also improve nitrogen and carbon assimilation, contributing to better biomass and yield.

Much of urea phosphite’s increased performance over potassium phosphite derives from a difference in ionic charge. Since the surfaces of plants have been proven to have a net positive ionic charge(1), the positive charge of the potassium ion found in potassium phosphite can limit its absorption in the plant and stunt root development and plant growth. With a net negative ionic charge, urea phosphite does not face this barrier, allowing for higher phosphorus uptake rates and efficacy.

Increased Stress Tolerance and Resilience

Many growers choose Prudent to help their crops and turf better tolerate abiotic stresses like nutrient deficiencies and water limitations. All Prudent products deliver a readily available phosphorus source for a rapid plant response to help enhance the integrity of plant cell walls and stimulate key pathways that support natural defense mechanisms. With increased root mass and healthier plants, Prudent helps crops and turf retain more water to increase drought tolerance and withstand other challenging growing conditions to improve plant performance, health, and yield.

Tank Mix Compatibility and Reduced Build-Up

All Prudent formulations are compatible with most fertilizers and crop protection products, seamlessly integrating into fertility and crop protection programs. They can be applied via foliar sprays, fertigation or soil applications. A lower pH level compared to most potassium phosphite products allows Prudent to be conducive to more tank mix combinations. Prudent also keeps unchelated metals stable in solution, reducing spray tank residue and minimizing scale build-up.

Pest and Disease Control

All Prudent formulations can improve the effectiveness of fungicides. Pair one of our Prudent products with Nutrol for expanded efficacy to control soil and foliar diseases such as Pythium, Phytophthora, Fusarium, as well as downy and powdery mildews.

Ideal for both agricultural and turf applications, Prudent Si provides all the benefits of urea phosphite with added silicon to increase the rigidity of plant stems and grass blades. For field growers, Prudent Si will reduce lodging during wind and hail events. For turf applications, Prudent Si is ideal for numerous turf applications, from putting greens to creating well-defined mow lines for sports turf. View Product Page

Prudent RX includes a proprietary blend of Prudent urea phosphite, Krystal Klear chelated micronutrients and Pennamin’s 17 free-form amino acids. Ideal for both agricultural and turf applications, Prudent RX delivers critical nutrients such as N but also delivers Ni , which aid in increasing a plant’s nitrogen use efficiency (NUE). A broad array of micronutrients are also included to balance and correct nutritional deficiencies in your soil. Along with the benefits of urea phosphite, it also contains high levels of free amino acids such as proline, glutamic acid, and histidine that help plants overcome symptoms caused by environmental stress. Especially popular in turf applications, Prudent 44 is a highly concentrated phosphite fertilizer effective at very low use rates. Prudent 44 contains one of the highest percentages of reacted PO3 of any phosphite fertilizer available. The formulation contains very little water, allowing Prudent 44 to remain stable in the jug and ensuring it won’t convert to phosphate (PO4) over time like most potassium phosphite products in the market. The low use rates also allow for a much more affordable cost per 1,000 ft2 than most potassium phosphite products available. View Product Page

Prudent 40 Plus combines all the benefits of Prudent 44 with our proprietary blend of 17 free-form amino acids in Pennamin. The amino acids further aid in building tolerance against environmental stresses, help move nutrients into the plant, increase chlorophyll synthesis, activate the synthesis of plant hormones, and play important roles in almost every plant function. Since the amino acids are immediately available to the plant in their free L-form, Prudent 40 Plus saves energy that a plant can then use for other vital functions. Prudent 40 Plus also improves seed growth and plant vigor for new turf. View Product Page
